What is AI? Whole School Assembly PowerPoint is a slideshow that explains artificial intelligence in simple terms and encourages children to think about using it responsibly. The content includes 9 slides, covering what AI is, everyday uses of AI, the difference between AI and other computer programs, the history of AI, AI safety, a debate and a final reflection. It links to computing learning about technology in everyday life.
What artificial intelligence means, everyday uses such as AI assistants, route-finding, recommendations and photo filters, and how AI learns from patterns while a calculator simply follows fixed instructions, with questions such as "Do you use AI in your everyday life?"
How scientists began working on AI in the 1950s with programs that played draughts, through free online translation tools in the late 1990s to voice assistants on mobile phones by 2011, asking "Could AI also have some negative impacts?"
Why information from AI needs checking, plus a debate about whether you would rather speak to a human or an AI machine at the bank, ending with "What could AI help us achieve in the years to come?"
Our whole school assemblies are PowerPoint slideshows that follow a similar structure: an introduction, questions to get children thinking, the key points of the topic and reflection time. They're paced to suit a primary school assembly and work best on a whiteboard, projected out to the hall. You can use them:
The majority of our assemblies include teacher notes and guidance to support delivery, and because they're pacey, you can adapt them to however long your assembly lasts.
Every assembly is editable, so you can add, remove or change slides to suit the needs of your school. We cover religious events, seasonal topics, values such as kindness, friendship and tolerance, science, history, PSHE, music, significant people and sporting events, so you can choose the assemblies that fit your school year.
Families can carry the conversation on at home by asking children about their assembly: what they heard, how it made them feel and what they think about it.
