Ramadan Whole School Assembly PowerPoint is a slideshow that explains why Muslims fast during the most holy month of the Islamic calendar. The content includes 8 slides, covering what Ramadan is, why Muslims fast, suhoor and iftar, gratitude, prayer and good deeds, why the dates of Ramadan change each year, Eid al-Fitr and a reflection. It links to RE learning about Islam.
How Ramadan remembers the first time the Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), why Muslims fast during daylight hours to show compassion and practise self-control and who does not fast, opening with "Have you ever had to give up something you really loved?"
The meal eaten before sunrise and the meal after sunset that breaks the fast, which usually begins with dates and water, with the question "Why do you think families gather together to share iftar?"
Evening prayers at the mosque, good deeds and charity, and the Eid al-Fitr celebration that begins after the first sighting of the new moon, ending with "Can you think of something you are thankful for today?"
Our whole school assemblies are PowerPoint slideshows that follow a similar structure: an introduction, questions to get children thinking, the key points of the topic and reflection time. They're paced to suit a primary school assembly and work best on a whiteboard, projected out to the hall. You can use them:
The majority of our assemblies include teacher notes and guidance to support delivery, and because they're pacey, you can adapt them to however long your assembly lasts.
Every assembly is editable, so you can add, remove or change slides to suit the needs of your school. We cover religious events, seasonal topics, values such as kindness, friendship and tolerance, science, history, PSHE, music, significant people and sporting events, so you can choose the assemblies that fit your school year.
Families can carry the conversation on at home by asking children about their assembly: what they heard, how it made them feel and what they think about it.
