World Environment Day Whole School Assembly PowerPoint is a slideshow that explores how we can protect our planet, for the day celebrated each year on 5th June. The content includes 12 slides with teacher notes, covering what World Environment Day is, why the environment matters, global environmental challenges, drought in Kenya, challenges in the UK, the UK coast, restoring and protecting nature, small actions, a positive future, a final reflection and follow-up activities. It links to geography learning about caring for the environment.
Habitat loss, drought and pollution, from communities in Kenya who travel far to collect water to litter, plastic waste and erosion on UK coastlines such as Cornwall, with questions such as "What environmental changes have you noticed where you live?"
Planting trees, protecting habitats, saving water, reducing waste and recycling, and why it helps to feel hopeful, asking "What is one small action you could take to help the environment?"
Follow-up ideas, including a "Save Our Planet" campaign, a storyboard showing how land can be damaged and then restored and an environment check around your school or home.
Our whole school assemblies are PowerPoint slideshows that follow a similar structure: an introduction, questions to get children thinking, the key points of the topic and reflection time. They're paced to suit a primary school assembly and work best on a whiteboard, projected out to the hall. You can use them:
The majority of our assemblies include teacher notes and guidance to support delivery, and because they're pacey, you can adapt them to however long your assembly lasts.
Every assembly is editable, so you can add, remove or change slides to suit the needs of your school. We cover religious events, seasonal topics, values such as kindness, friendship and tolerance, science, history, PSHE, music, significant people and sporting events, so you can choose the assemblies that fit your school year.
Families can carry the conversation on at home by asking children about their assembly: what they heard, how it made them feel and what they think about it.
