This Year 1 Add by Making 10 resource is a practical activity to help your Y1 learners practise and consolidate their learning in an engaging way. The resource includes an explanation of the task, an equipment list and an example of how you could deliver the activity. It is designed to use everyday classroom resources (counters and tens frames) and be easy to implement in the classroom.
Curriculum Objectives
- Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs
- Solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, and missing number problems such as 7 = __ 9
- Add and subtract numbers using concrete objects and pictorial representations, including: a two-digit number and ones; a two-digit number and tens; two two-digit numbers; adding three one-digit numbers
