A practical activity for pairs or groups in which children use dice and counting objects to practise adding and subtracting 1 or 2. This Year 1 Add or Subtract 1 or 2 game can also be made more challenging by asking pupils to record number sentences on whiteboard.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20
  • Add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20, including zero
  • Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs
