Extend pupils' understanding of comparing addition and subtraction calculations by using our Year 1 Compare Statements 2 Discussion Problem. Children will help the farmer to fill his field with a combination of animals that is fewer than the given calculation.

The open-ended nature of this question allows for fantastic conversation and problem solving between the children. Use as an extension to complete in pairs or in groups.
