Download these Year 1 Comparison Symbols Practical Activities to support children's learning in the areas of provision around the classroom. There are six activities in total, including the sand and water area, fine motor, small world and the maths area.

This resource includes instructions for adults to conduct the activity, as well as child-friendly instructions and images. It's ideal for using alongside our varied fluency and reasoning and problem solving resources to ensure pupils have a well-rounded understanding of the comparison symbols.

Teaching note: Inequality symbols are included in this step as they were introduced in Au Block 1 Step 12. Although this is a Y2 objective, they can be used as a visual aid to improve fluency as children continue comparing numbers and amounts.
