Let children delve deeper and look at problems from different angles with this Year 3 Compare Angles Discussion Problem. This resource includes two open-ended questions for children to explore their understanding and investigate their knowledge of angles even further. Each question has multiple answers, so this resource can be used more than once to develop a deeper level of skills.

Use as a challenge or extension activity when your class has a secure understanding of obtuse, acute and right angles. It can be used by individuals, in a pair, or as a small group task to encourage mathematical discussions. You could even open up the discussion to the whole class by displaying one of the questions on screen and agreeing on an outcome. We've included an example answer for each question so that children can compare their answers to ours, or it can be a great way to discuss what other solutions there are.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Recognise that angles are a property of shape or a description of a turn
  • Identify right angles, recognise that two right angles make a half-turn, three make three quarters of a turn and four a complete turn; identify whether angles are greater than or less than a right angle
