Let children explore the concept of time and delve deeper into their knowledge with this Year 3 Solve Problems with Time Discussion Problem. This resource includes an open-ended problem-solving question with multiple outcomes for children to get curious about. We recommend children have a solid understanding of seconds and minutes and how to convert between the two measurements before they tackle this question. Our accompanying resources in this lesson will help them achieve this.

Use at the end of your lesson as a challenge activity. It can be solved in pairs or as a small group to encourage mathematical discussions, or display the problem on the screen and open the conversation up to the whole class. There is an example answer available for children to compare their outcomes with, or use this to show the multiple possible answers available.
