Let children's minds explore their knowledge of times tables with this Year 3 The 8 Times Table Discussion Problem worksheet. This resource includes two different question styles that will really put your children's knowledge of the 8 times table to the test in different ways. The first question requires children to crack the code to find out the value of each shape. The second questions involves using clues to solve a multistep problem. Both questions enable a deeper level of thinking, spark curiosity and encourage mathematical talk between pairs or small groups.

A great way to introduce challenge into your classroom. This works well alongside our other resources in this lesson. Alternatively, this can be used to extend children's understanding even further by incorporating it into an intervention group. An answer page is provided for children to compare their outcomes to.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables
  • Write and calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables that they know, including for two-digit numbers times one-digit numbers, using mental and progressing to formal written methods
  • Solve problems, including missing number problems, involving multiplication and division, including positive integer scaling problems and correspondence problems in which n objects are connected to m objects
