This Year 3 Understand the Whole resource recaps some of the key skills needed to take on the Understand the Whole step, and the whole concept of making the whole. The resource touches on questions from a number of steps that children have previously encountered - including the Year 2 Unit and Non-Unit Fractions step and the Year 2 Make Equal Parts step. Once children feel secure with this, you can let them get to grips with understanding and making the whole.
