Now that children know what soil is and its role, help them understand how different soil absorbs different amounts of water with this Year 3 Which Type of Soil Holds the Most Water? Investigation Lesson.

In this Year 3 lesson, pupils will recap on the three types of soil examined in the previous lesson (clay, sandy and chalky) then engage in a practical investigation to observe how much water is absorbed by each one. They will record findings in a table and create a graph to draw scientific conclusions from their fair test.
