Take children's learning to another level with this fun and engaging Year 4 Divide a 3-Digit Number by a 1-Digit Number Discussion Problem. Our resource includes two problems for children to investigate, discuss and complete to showcase their skills of dividing 3-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Both problems involve a different level of understanding and include various ways to answer them too.

We'd recommend using this in small groups or pairs once children are confident in their dividing ability. They can build confidence by completing the accompanying varied fluency, reasoning and problem-solving worksheets in this lesson. You can also guide children through the modelling PowerPoint to get a flavour for the questions they might encounter. An example answer sheet in provided for children to compare their outcomes with too.


Curriculum Objectives

  • Recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12
  • Use place value, known and derived facts to multiply and divide mentally, including: multiplying by 0 and 1; dividing by 1; multiplying together three numbers
