This Year 4 Researching and Labelling Food Chains and Webs Worksheet supports children in developing their understanding of how living things depend on one another within a chosen habitat. Children will research a specific habitat and create either a simple food chain or a more detailed food web, helping them to visualise how energy flows between organisms.

Pupils will label each stage of the chain, including producers, primary consumers, secondary consumers and tertiary consumers. There are also opportunities to build understanding by identifying whether each animal is a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore, encouraging thoughtful consideration of diet and survival.

This activity can be completed independently or as part of a paired or group task. It offers a valuable opportunity for discussion around ecosystems, interdependence and how changes within a habitat can affect living things.

National Curriculum Objectives:

  • Construct and interpret a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey.
