This engaging resource covers content from the year before to prepare pupils for the main Year 4 learning of using were, was, did and done in standard English. This Year 4 'Were' or 'Was' and 'Did' or 'Done' Prior Learning worksheet includes questions on the use of the present perfect form of verbs in sentences and how this differs from the simple past form. There are three varied fluency questions, two reasoning questions and one application question to give children the opportunity to show what they already know about the present perfect form.

Suitable for use independently, in small groups or paired work, this worksheet could be used to informally assess your pupils' knowledge and understanding before the main lesson or as an intervention. A handy answer sheet is also provided to make marking quick and easy. Or you could use it to give the children the opportunity to self or peer mark.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Develop their understanding of the concepts set out in English appendix 2 by: Using the present perfect form of verbs in contrast to the past tense / Use of the present perfect form of verbs instead of the simple past [for example, He has gone out to play contrasted with He went out to play]
