This Year 5 Compare Volume worksheet contains two challenges. The first challenge is to explore if it is possible for a shape that looks the same from the top to have different volumes. The second challenge is to create a shape that has different volumes and the children must explore different possible solutions. Try using this resource as a challenge activity for your more able students or as a group activity with adult support. We have included some example answers to help guide your marking.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Estimate volume [for example, using 1 cm3 blocks to build cuboids (including cubes)] and capacity [for example, using water]
