Use this Year 5 Round to the Nearest 10 (Recap) Reasoning and Problem Solving resource to revisit rounding with your class before the end of the year.

The two reasoning questions require children to look carefully at 5 and 6-digit numbers to check that they have been rounded to the nearest 10 correctly. They then have to explain their thinking using mathematical language. The problem solving question challenges them to solve a mystery number puzzle. Can they find not just one solution but two?

Each question has two similar parts to ensure that children gain confidence and secure their rounding skills. An answer sheet is provided for teachers and children who may be marking their own work.

A varied fluency resource is also available for this small step.
