Translations Reasoning and Problem Solving

Worksheet

Use this Year 5 Translations Reasoning and Problem Solving resource to give your pupils an opportunity to solve problems involving translations. There are two reasoning questions which ask children to check that a given translation matches a translation shown on a grid. After deciding, children explain their thinking using mathematical language. The problem solving question presents them with a square grid 'map'. Can they find more than one way to move around the area shown and describe it accurately?

Each question has two similar parts to build confidence. An answer sheet is provided to help teachers and pupils marking their own work.

A varied fluency resource is also available for this small step.
