Help children understand which materials are best suited for different purposes with this Year 5 Which Material and Why? Lesson.
In this Year 5 PowerPoint, pupils will learn key vocabulary within the context of materials (such as malleable, ductile and durable), then investigate metal, wood and plastic in detail to apply this language and understand why they are suitable for different purposes. For tasks, they will design a lunch container that applies their understanding of which material is best and why, as well as consider different scenarios and which material would be the most suitable.
National Curriculum Objectives:
Give reasons, based on evidence from comparative and fair tests, for the particular uses of everyday materials, including metals, wood and plastic.
