One of the things kids most love is mixing loads of different mathematical rules at the same time and then chucking fractions in at the same time! It's a good job then that we've created this Year 6 Mixed Questions with Fractions activity, a sterling resource that uses all four rules and fractions at the same time. Lovely stuff. This resource comes in the form of a game, with a list of resources and instructions, so that children can develop confidence in answering mixed questions with fractions.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Use common factors to simplify fractions; use common multiples to express fractions in the same denomination
  • Add and subtract fractions with different denominators and mixed numbers, using the concept of equivalent fractions
  • Multiply simple pairs of proper fractions, writing the answer in its simplest form [for example, 1/4 × 1/2 = 1/8]
  • Divide proper fractions by whole numbers [for example, 1/3 ÷ 2 = 1/6 ]
