An image of the Short Division Supporting Activity Resource

Short division, or the bus-stop method, named due to the resemblance of the question to a bus stop, is one of those skills that some children need a little extra support. So we've created a supporting activity - this Year 6 Short Division activity - just to give children an extra opportunity to practise the bus-stop method. The activity requires concrete resources so be careful to check the list, and instructions so that the task can be run by children who feel confident in groups, or as part of an intervention by supporting adults. The overarching aim is to bring a bit of fun to division!

Curriculum Objectives

  • Divide numbers up to 4 digits by a two-digit number using the formal written method of short division where appropriate, interpreting remainders according to the context
