This Year 6 Substitution Reasoning and Problem Solving worksheet will help children understand the relationship between the values in an equation and the answer, and how replacing algebraic symbols with numbers in an expression impacts the answer. Children will identify mistakes in completed equations, find possible answers to expressions using substitution and reason if a child has analysed an expression correctly. All answers are given so that marking is as simple as possible!

Note: the 'a' column uses whole numbers and the 'b' column introduces decimals.
