This Year 6 Synonyms and Antonyms Prior Learning worksheet covers previous Year 6 learning and is a fantastic resource to use to recap children's understanding of what synonyms and antonyms are before they move on to the main lesson to develop that knowledge further.

With three varied fluency, two reasoning and one application question, children are asked to identify synonyms and antonyms in sentences, sort antonyms into a table, order synonyms from strongest to weakest, explain how the definition of a word changes for its antonym and write a sentence with the antonyms to given words.

Use this resource as a way to assess children's prior knowledge before moving on or alternatively, this could be used for those children who are less confident with synonyms and antonyms.
