Classroom Secrets Maths Scheme
We’ve been talking to teachers (a lot) through our teacher advisory panel, CS:Insiders, to help us understand what’s currently great about maths and the problems that need to be addressed.
The main themes were that concepts can feel rushed and need to be broken down more and that there is not enough time to build fluency in concepts.
That’s why we’ve been working with teachers to create a new sequence of steps to help children grasp mathematical concepts securely. We’re big on research, and so a lot of research has gone into our work (and still does).
What’s available now?
We’re not rushing our scheme. We’re taking the time to ensure that’s it’s top-quality and that we’re validating it at every step. Right now, you won’t find everything. It’s a work in progress for us and we hope you’ll come along on the journey with us.
What if I’m using a different scheme like White Rose Maths or Oak National Academy?
As our maths scheme has been shaped by the national curriculum for England and each step is directly linked to its objectives, our resources can be used to support any scheme that follows the national curriculum (which is all of them). You’ve probably noticed that most schemes follow a very similar progression because it’s, well, logical!
Our maths overviews
The sequence of our Mathematics Overview has been determined by the national curriculum in England and therefore presents our resources in a logical way to promote progression of knowledge and skills.
Our maths scheme has been designed to encourage progress throughout the school year and across each year group without being too prescriptive.
We know many things happen within a school and classroom over the school year and that not every child learns at the same speed. With this in mind, we have ensured that some of our teaching blocks have opportunities for consolidation, or just simply account for things like school productions. We didn’t want to pack in 39 teaching weeks when in reality, that’s not achievable.
We have an overview for each group, where you’ll find the sequence of teaching for the year and the small steps for autumn (spring and summer will be added shortly).
At Classroom Secrets, flexibility is key, so this overview, and the accompanying resources, can be used in their entirety or can be used individually to suit the needs of each school and/or teacher and this has been an important driver as we’ve created it.
Resources in our steps
We’re going bigger than we have before. We’ve got resources for each step and also resources for each block. So, what can you expect?
