Shopping on a Budget
Six differentiated activities to help children to learn how to stay within a budget and spend as little money as possible by comparing and calculating prices between supermarkets and finding the best deals.
National Curriculum Objectives
Mathematics Y2: Solve simple problems in a practical context involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit, including giving change
Mathematics Y3: Add and subtract amounts of money to give change, using both £ and p in practical contexts
Mathematics Y4: Estimate, compare and calculate different measures, including money in pounds and pence
Mathematics Y5: Use all four operations to solve problems involving measure [for example, length, mass, volume, money] using decimal notation, including scaling
Mathematics Y6: Solve problems involving the calculation of percentages [for example, of measures, and such as 15% of 360] and the use of percentages for comparison
