War Horse Chapter 13 Comprehension Whole Class Guided Reading

War Horse Chapter 13 Comprehension for Whole Class Guided Reading includes differentiated questions and activities based on chapter thirteen of the popular novel by Michael Morpurgo. We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6. In this chapter, Joey and Topthorn make it through the winter along with the other two horses in their team. As they entered spring, the soldiers' moods lifted and the food rations improved. The horses grazed in the meadows so they began to build form again ready for the year ahead. Joey and Topthorn gain a lot of weight and are chosen for the job of pulling the cart loaded with ammunition to the artillery lines. The soldier looking after them is called Friedrich and he takes a shining to Topthorn. The other soldiers think he is mad but he confesses to Joey and Topthorn that he does not want to be fighting in the war and would rather be at home. He promises the two horses that he will do what he can to make sure they all make it safely through the war and go back home.
