Discussion points for teachers

1. Help them to sort the objects correctly into equal groups.
Discuss counting the objects in each hoop and making sure that the number of the individual items are equal. Discuss whether any objects need to be moved.

2. How many more objects will each child get?
Discuss sharing the total number of objects left over in the three spare places between the seven children.
Each child will receive 9 more objects because 63 spare objects ÷ 7 children = 9 objects each.

3. Find at least two different ways he could have shared these out.
Discuss sharing the total numbers of objects equally between the seven children, in different ways. This question is open-ended for the children to explore.

4. How many pinwheels were in each box?
Discuss working out seven groups of 2 and sharing this into two equal groups.
7 children x 2 pinwheels = 14. 14 pinwheels ÷ 2 boxes = 7 pinwheels in each box.
