We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6. In this chapter, Johnny realises that the collision with the iceberg is more serious than they first thought. He goes to check on the Lizziebeth and Kaspar. Mr Stanton makes the rest of them leave for the Boat Deck without taking anything with them - including Kaspar. Lizziebeth is upset at not being able to rescue Kaspar so Johnny goes back to fetch him. He hides Kaspar in a blanket and Mrs Stanton goes with Kaspar and Lizziebeth on a life boat to safety. Mr Stanton and Johnny help the other women and children climb into the life boats while the boat begins to sink. They soon realise that they are about to die, but are grateful Lizziebeth and Mrs Stanton are safe.
