We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6. In the final chapter, Johnny is invited to stay with the Stantons in New York. Shortly after arriving home, Lizziebeth becomes ill with pneumonia. Whilst she is recovering, Mr and Mrs Stanton show Johnny around New York and become fond of him. Johnny thinks he will be sent back to London when Lizziebeth is well again, but the opposite happens and they ask him to stay. The Stantons, Johnny and Kaspar travel back to the Savoy Hotel several years later. Lizziebeth has made a sculpture of Kaspar to leave as a present at the hotel. When they are there, Kaspar disappears and Lizziebeth and Johnny believe he has passed on. They will always remember him as the cat that brought them together.
