We recommend using this novel with Year 5 & Year 6. In Chapter 9, Johnny and Mr Stanton are on the Titanic as it sinks. They are washed overboard by a large wave and are able to swim to a capsized lifeboat. They climb on top and wait to be rescued with several other men. While they wait, they have to turn people away from their lifeboat as it is too full and would sink if any more men climbed on board to safety. Johnny feels guilty for this but it saves his life. They are rescued by another boat and once on board, they search for Lizziebeth, Mrs Stanton and Kaspar. Finally, they find them safe and alive.
