Place Value of Digits in Numbers – KS2 Reasoning Test Practice

National Curriculum Objective
Mathematics Year 2: (2N3) Recognise the place value of each digit in a two-digit number (tens, ones)

​Mathematics Year 3: (3N3) Recognise the place value of each digit in a three-digit number (hundreds, tens, ones)

​​Mathematics Year 4: (4N3a) Recognise the place value of each digit in a four-digit number (thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones)

​​Mathematics Year 4: ​(4F9) Find the effect of dividing a one- or two-digit number by 10 and 100, identifying the value of the digits in the answer as ones, tenths and hundredths

​​Mathematics Year 5​​​: (5N3a) Read, write, order and compare numbers to at least 1 000 000 and determine the value of each digit

​​​Mathematics Year 6​: (6N2) Read, write, order and compare numbers up to 10 000 000 and determine the value of each digit

Mathematics Year 6: (6F9a) Identify the value of each digit in numbers given to three decimal places and multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 giving answers up to three decimal places

Differentiation:

Beginner Write the place value of ones and tens in 2-digit numbers. Aimed at Year 2 Secure/Year 3 Emerging.

Easy Write the place value of ones, tens and hundreds in 3-digit numbers.​ Aimed at Year 2 Mastery/Year 3 Secure/Year 4 Emerging.

Tricky Write the place value of ones, tens, hundreds and thousands in 4-digit numbers.​  Aimed at Year 3 Mastery/Year 4 Secure/Year 5 Emerging.

Expert Write the place value of ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands and tenths in 6-digit numbers (including 1 decimal place).​  Aimed at Year 4 Mastery/Year 5 Developing/Year 6 Emerging.

Brainbox Write the place value of ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions, tenths and hundredths in 9-digit numbers (including 2 decimal place).​  Aimed at Year 5 Mastery/Year 6 Developing.

Genius Write the place value of ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions, ten millions, tenths, hundredths​ and thousandths in 11-digit numbers (including 3 decimal place).​  Aimed at Year 5 Mastery/Year 6 Secure.
