Recognising Conjunctions KS2 SPAG Test Practice

These questions have been taken from the KS2 SPaG Test to help your children practise specific question types.

National Curriculum Objective 

Year 3 and 4 English: (3G1.4) Express time, place and cause using conjunctions [for example, when, before, after, while, so, because]

Year 3 and 4 English: (3G1.6) Express time, place and cause using adverbs [for example, then, next, soon, therefore]

Year 3 and 4 English: (3G1.7) Express time, place and cause using prepositions [for example, before, after, during, in, because of]

Differentiation:

Beginner Using conjunctions that join sentences together in the middle and simple conjunctions such as and, but and so. Aimed at Year 3 Emerging.

Easy Using some subordination such as if, when and because but still joining sentences in the middle. Aimed at Year 3 Developing.

Tricky More complex conjunctions such as although and meanwhile used at the beginning of the sentence with a comma for clauses. Aimed at Year 3 Secure.

Expert A mixture of simple and more complex conjunctions used in more than one place (some at beginning and some in the middle). Some sentences have more than one conjunction to identify. Aimed at Year 3 Mastery.
