All About Bats Whole School Assembly PowerPoint is a slideshow that explores the flying mammals that hunt at night and why they matter to our ecosystem. The content includes 12 slides with teacher notes, covering what bats are, how bats hunt using echolocation, why bats sleep upside down, the importance of bats, threats to bats in the UK, helping bats thrive, International Bat Night, a reflection and a follow-up activity. It links to science learning about living things and their habitats.
How bats send out sounds that bounce back to their ears to find insects, and why they sleep hanging upside down, with questions such as "What might happen if a human tried to sleep upside-down?"
How bats pollinate plants, spread the seeds of bananas and avocados and eat insects before they reach farmers' crops, asking "If bats did not exist, how might our food sources be affected?"
Why UK bat populations have declined and how flowers, ponds, bug hotels and bat boxes can help, plus International Bat Night at the end of August, ending with "How has your understanding of bats changed today?"
Our whole school assemblies are PowerPoint slideshows that follow a similar structure: an introduction, questions to get children thinking, the key points of the topic and reflection time. They're paced to suit a primary school assembly and work best on a whiteboard, projected out to the hall. You can use them:
The majority of our assemblies include teacher notes and guidance to support delivery, and because they're pacey, you can adapt them to however long your assembly lasts.
Every assembly is editable, so you can add, remove or change slides to suit the needs of your school. We cover religious events, seasonal topics, values such as kindness, friendship and tolerance, science, history, PSHE, music, significant people and sporting events, so you can choose the assemblies that fit your school year.
Families can carry the conversation on at home by asking children about their assembly: what they heard, how it made them feel and what they think about it.
