This EYFS Animals Build a Number Line Learning Activity gives pupils the opportunity to practise a range of skills. Children can subitise the amounts, use the numerals to order the cards and play various games with their friends in continuous provision. This resource can also be used in an adult-led activity. Practitioners could observe to see which children can subitise smaller amounts and who needs to count the images as they order the cards.

It covers the following objectives in reception:

(M-24) Count beyond ten

(M-25) Compare numbers


Curriculum Objectives

  • Have a deep understanding of number to 10, including the composition of each number
  • Subitise (recognise quantities without counting) up to 5
  • Automatically recall (without reference to rhymes, counting or other aids) number bonds up to 5 (including subtraction facts) and some number bonds to 10, including double facts
