This EYFS Counting Irregular Arrangements to 10 Learning Activity enables children to count up to 10 objects in irregular arrangements. Children count each set of objects and represent the number in the table provided. Encourage children to count systematically by pointing at and giving one number name to each object in turn. Alternatively, children can place a counter on each image or cross out the images as they count. In other areas of the classroom, allow for the children to count and work with groups of objects, for example dominoes, small world objects, natural materials in the outdoor area, stones/pebbles in the sand tray.
It covers the following objectives for children in reception:
(M-21) Count objects, actions and sounds.
(M-23) Link the number symbol (numeral) with its cardinal number value.
