Spring is well and truly in bloom with our EYFS Subitising Activity Cards! This learning activity enables children to practise their counting and numeral recognition in an independent context. Children can subitise the small amounts, or count using one-to-one correspondence, and then select the corresponding numeral by placing a clothes peg in the correct place. Alternatively, the cards showing number pieces can be provided which will support children's quick recognition of the maths manipulative.

It covers the following objectives for children in reception:

(M-21) Count objects, actions and sounds.

(M-22) Subitise.

(M-23) Link the number symbol (numeral) with its cardinal number value.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Have a deep understanding of number to 10, including the composition of each number
  • Subitise (recognise quantities without counting) up to 5
  • Automatically recall (without reference to rhymes, counting or other aids) number bonds up to 5 (including subtraction facts) and some number bonds to 10, including double facts
