Past Tense or Present Tense Test Practice

Worksheet

Are your class ready to put their tense knowledge to the test? Let them try out our Key Stage 1 Past Tense or Present Tense Test Practice. This resource is differentiated into three levels of challenge and is suitable for all children in key stage 1. There are two tests per level of challenge where children must choose whether the sentence is past tense, not past tense or present tense depending on which level children attempt.

Use this in class as part of your ongoing assessment and to show the children's progress. It can give you an insight into any gaps in their learning and inform future interventions. You could also use this as a homework task or an extension task; the choice is yours! Each test has an answer sheet included to help you whizz through your marking, and they can be used for peer or self-assessment too.

Curriculum Objectives

  • Use of the progressive form of verbs in the present and past tense to mark actions in progress [for example, she is drumming, he was shouting]
