This KS1 Rise and Read resource includes four reading activities focused on Black History Month, which takes place in October each year. It is suitable for use in Years 1 and 2 and could be displayed on the whiteboard as early morning work, used in reading or PSHE lessons or even as a stimulus in assemblies. However you choose to use it, children will not only sharpen their reading skills but also learn more about this important celebration.
The pack includes an information text, a biography of Mae Jemison, an image and a fact file about Walter Tull. These lead to questions which focus on a variety of reading skills: retrieval, vocabulary, prediction, inference and explanation. There is also an assessment style question with a focus on choosing true and false statements based on the text.
This resource does not require any printing as it has been specially designed to be displayed on the whiteboard.
