The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14th October 1066. This KS1 Rise and Read resource includes four reading activities focused on this famous moment in history. It is suitable for use in Years 1 and 2 and could be displayed on the whiteboard as early morning work, used in reading or history lessons or even as a stimulus in assemblies. However you choose to use it, children will not only sharpen their reading skills but also learn more about the past.
The pack includes an information text, a playscript, an image and a letter. These lead to questions which focus on a variety of reading skills: retrieval, vocabulary, inference, prediction and summary. There is also an assessment-style question which focuses on selecting true and false statements based on the text.
This resource does not require any printing, as it has been specially designed to be displayed on the whiteboard.
