This KS1 What Happened After the Gunpowder Plot? PPT gives children a fascinating insight into the events that followed the failed plot to blow up Parliament. Pupils will learn what happened to the plotters, including how Guy Fawkes was caught and tortured, and the consequences they faced for trying to harm the king and government.

The PPT explains how King James I introduced strict new laws against Catholics in response to the plot and how these laws affected everyday life. Children will explore how these events link to crime and punishment and the idea of cause and consequence.

Engaging teaching slides feature key information about the aftermath of the Gunpowder Plot, including the introduction of harsher laws, the capture and punishment of the plotters, and the development of legal protections that make the justice system much fairer today. Pupils will also discover how the 5th of November is still remembered and celebrated each year with bonfires and fireworks, helping them understand how history shapes traditions.

Throughout the PPT, enquiry questions encourage children to think about how the plotters’ actions led to consequences and how laws and punishments have changed over time.
