This KS1 What is it Like to Live in Hot and Cold Regions? Geography PowerPoint introduces children to life in two of the most extreme places on Earth: Death Valley in California and Qaanaaq in Greenland. Building on previous lessons about the equator and the poles, the presentation focuses on the contrasting climates and living conditions in these regions.
Children will learn why Death Valley is one of the hottest places on Earth and what this means for daily life, exploring the desert landscape and how people adapt to extreme heat. They will also discover what life is like in Qaanaaq, one of the coldest inhabited places, exploring the icy environment, the traditional lifestyles of the Inuit people and how communities manage freezing temperatures.
Throughout the presentation, children will explore thought-provoking questions and complete tasks designed to deepen their understanding, as well as have possible misconceptions addressed. Engaging assessment opportunities are also included to check learning at key points in the lesson.
