This KS1 Where are the Hottest Regions in the World? Geography PowerPoint introduces children to the tropics and their climate. Used as part of our sequence on the equator, this builds on previous lessons within the sequence to focus learning on the tropics now that children know where the equator and poles are located on Earth.

Children will learn about why it is warmer at the equator and about the location of the tropics in relation to the equator, then focus on what the climate is like in these areas and why through specific examples. For their tasks, they will compare images of a rainforest and a desert then research one of the hottest areas on Earth to write a simple report about their findings.

Throughout the presentation, children will explore thought-provoking questions and complete tasks designed to deepen their understanding, as well as have possible misconceptions addressed. Engaging assessment opportunities are also included to check learning at key points in the lesson.
