In this chapter, Tom and the warden rescues Will from the alcove but Will has been there a long time and is cold and stiff. Tom and the warden manage to get the baby from Will and realise she has died a little while ago. Will does not know and they don't tell him. Will is taken away and Tom is not allowed to go with him. Tom helps the hospital with the casualties throughout the night and the following day he is allowed to see Will. He is told that Will will be going to a children's home to get better but Tom wants to take him back home so he kidnaps him.
