This KS2 Rise and Read Mary Anning resource includes four reading activities focused on English palaeontologist and fossil collector, Mary Anning. It is suitable for use in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, and could be displayed on the whiteboard as early morning work, used in reading lessons or even as a stimulus in assemblies. However you choose to use it, children will not only sharpen their reading skills but also learn more about the world around them.

The pack includes an information text, a diary entry, an image and newspaper article. These lead to questions which focus on a variety of reading skills: retrieval, purpose, vocabulary, inference and prediction. There is also an assessment-style question with a focus on discussing author intent and effect on the reader.

This resource does not require any printing, as it has been specially designed to be displayed on the whiteboard.
