This KS2 Rise and Read resource includes four reading activities all about the summer solstice. It is suitable for use in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and could be displayed on the whiteboard as early morning work, used in reading sessions or even as a fun stimulus in assemblies. However you choose to use it, children will not only sharpen their reading skills but also learn more about this celebration.
The pack includes two information texts (one about the summer solstice and one about Stonehenge), a diary and an image. These lead to questions which focus on a variety of reading skills: retrieval, purpose, vocabulary, inference, prediction and summarise. There is also an assessment-style question too.
This resource does not require any printing, as it has been specially designed to be displayed on the whiteboard.
