Take your pupils on an exciting cross-curricular adventure as they become architects, engineers and designers in The Great Landmark Building Challenge. In this engaging KS2 project, children work collaboratively to research, plan, build and present a model of a famous landmark from around the world.
Pupils begin by investigating iconic structures such as the Eiffel Tower, the Houses of Parliament, the Great Pyramids of Giza or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. They explore where these landmarks are located, why they are significant and which design features make them instantly recognisable.
To help teachers deliver the challenge with confidence, a complementary resource pack is also available to download alongside the PowerPoint. This includes comprehensive teacher guidance, a pupil research and design sheet, challenge cards to introduce real-world engineering problems and voting cards for the final landmark exhibition. These ready-to-use resources provide structure and support throughout the project, making it easy to facilitate collaborative learning, assess pupils' understanding and celebrate their achievements.
This practical challenge supports learning across Design and Technology, Geography, History, Science, Speaking and Listening, and PSHE, while developing essential skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking and project management. Perfect for enrichment days, STEM weeks, topic launches or end-of-unit projects, this resource inspires pupils to think like real-world designers and engineers.
