This Year 1 Compare Objects within 50 Discussion Problem has been designed to encourage your pupils to use mathematical language and begin to discuss questions. The problem solving question promotes using physical representations to solve a number of comparison statements, and can be used in pairs or in groups. Although it is meant to be approached in pairs or groups, this resource has been developed to challenge children to further extend their knowledge of comparing objects within 50.


Curriculum Objectives

  • Count to and across 100, forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1, or from any given number
  • Count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals
  • Identify and represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line, and use the language of: equal to, more than, less than (fewer), most, least
