What's included in the Fewer, More, Same Varied Fluency resource and why is it useful?

Year 1 Fewer, More, Same Varied Fluency is a single worksheet that features questions for fluency practice. The questions on the Varied Fluency resource for Fewer, More, Same cover using the language of equal to, more than and fewer. The questions match the content in the Adult-Led Practical Activities resource, which is a teacher-led activity used as part of the main teaching input and includes questions that can be adapted to suit the needs of individual learners, helping you to meet each child where they are at to ensure progress for every child, not just the average child.

Varied Fluency

There are two are questions for children to complete.

• Q1: counting the objects and identifying which has more.

• Q2: completing the sentence stems to compare three groups.

How do our varied fluency resources work?

Our varied fluency resources work best alongside our teaching PowerPoints, which walk you through the whole lesson along with other lesson resources that you can find on our Fewer, More, Same lesson page.

• After completing the main teaching of the Teaching PowerPoint (PPT), teachers assess whether children are ready to access their Varied Fluency worksheet or require support, which can be achieved through the Why not try... page of the Practical Activities resource.

• If children do not need further support, they can progress straight to a Varied Fluency worksheet or flexibly access learning through the Continuous Provision.

• The Varied Fluency worksheet can be accessed independently or with adult support.

• Across all Year 1 maths resources, challenge is provided through adult questioning and reasoning rather than levelled tasks, in line with mastery principles.
