What's included in the Fewer, More, Same Continuous Provision resource and why is it useful?

Year 1 Fewer, More, Same Continuous Provision resource includes planning for eight provision activities. The planning can be used to set up the activities in one or more provision areas, such as small world, construction or maths area. The activities have been designed for children to access independently as part of the lesson or as a follow-up. Each activity covers using the language of equal to, more than and fewer.

This pack includes ideas for the following areas:

• Maths area – compare using ten frames and counters

• Maths area – compare amounts using different maths equipment

• Small world area – compare using animals and enclosures

• Fine motor area – compare beads by threading them onto laces

• Mud kitchen area – compare number of ingredients used

• Sand area – compare number of objects hidden in sand

• Role play area – compare two baskets of items

• Construction area – compare the number of cubes in two towers

How do our continuous provision resources work?

Our Continuous Provision resources work best alongside our teaching PowerPoints, which walk you through the whole lesson along with other lesson resources that you can find on our Fewer, More, Same lesson page. Children can use the activities to flexibly access their learning to improve fluency or to deepen and apply their knowledge as part of their reasoning and problem solving.

The Continuous Provision activities:

• Can be used at different points throughout the lesson.

• Can be used alongside the Varied Fluency and Reasoning and Problem Solving worksheets to provide meaningful opportunities for practice.

• Can be used to revisit the activities to consolidate their understanding, giving them the time and space to really focus and deepen their thinking and reasoning skills, which supports mastery of the concept.

• Support observation and assessment as children apply their learning independently through play.
