Let children get to grips with measurement by downloading this compare and measure mass activity. Our Year 1 Measure Mass resource includes three different varied fluency style questions and has two of each question type per worksheet. This gives children the opportunity to put their skills into practice. This resource has been differentiated three ways. Below is a brief outline as to how each level of differentiation differs per level of challenge:

Developing: Questions to support measuring mass using one type of non-standard unit.

Expected: Questions to support measuring mass using a variety of non-standard units. Using comparative language; more than, less than.

Greater Depth: Questions to support measuring mass using a variety of non-standard units. Using comparative language; more than, less than. The mass of an object is sometimes doubled or halved to find an answer.

Use this resource as an independent task for the whole class. Alternatively, this could be used in an intervention group to offer further challenge or support where required. You could also use this in your provision areas with manipulatives for children to explore and get hands on with maths! A handy answer sheet is provided to speed up marking too.

  • Measure and begin to record mass/weight
